One of the coolest things to do in Thailand when you are looking for an adventure is to head to Khao Sok National Park. Established in 1980 as Thailand’s 22nd National Park. The Khao Sok National Park consists of a thick native rainforest, waterfalls, eye catching limestone cliffs and an island stubbed lake.

Getting up close with elephants, Deep jungle trekking, Night jungle camping, canoeing, Cheow Lan Lake trips and many more adventurous activities, are the highlights of the Khao Sok national Park. Spending a day inside the national park and enjoying the activities will make you feel in the lap of nature an experience unlike any other.

 

Location

 

Khao Sok National Park is located in Surat Thani Province of Thailand. Its area is 739 square kms, and it includes the 165 square kilometer Cheow Lan Lake contained by the Ratchaprapha Dam. It is considered as Thailand’s rainiest spot and dates back 160 million years, making it one of the world’s oldest rainforests.

 

Flora & Fauna

 

Dotted with lush limestone mountains and filled with tropical rainforest, lakes, rivers and waterfalls, Khao Sok is home to a staggeringly diverse range of wildlife and plants. One of the largest flowers in the world, Rafflesia can be seen here. There are more than 1,500 species of Bamboo along with a variety of wildlife inside the sanctuary.

 

Getting to Khao Sok National Park

 

Khao Sok National Park is easily accessible by public services from nearby Phuket and Krabi.

 

Krabi to Khao Sok National Park

 

Khao Sok National park is a 2 hours drive from Krabi. One can rent a taxi from Krabi or hop into a minibus.
The buses will drop you at the main road, around 2 kms from the National Park entrance.

 

Phuket to Khao Sok National Park

 

From Phuket it will take 2 hrs to reach the Khao Sok National park. You can rent a taxi from Krabi or get into a minibus.
The buses will drop you at the main road, around 2 kms from the National Park entrance.

 

Activity Areas in Khao Sok National Park

 

The Park can be split into two main areas.
1) The first is the location of the park headquarters and the visitor centre.
2) The second area is further east at Ratchaprapa Dam and Cheow Lan Lake.

You must spend minimum 3 days in Khao Sok National Park.
2 days exploring the HQ area

How much is the Khao Sok Entrance Fee?

 

Khao Sok National Park Entrance Fee for foreigners is 300 BAHT per/person (150 Baht for children)
The fee for Thai Nationals is 40 Baht (20 Baht for children).

It is considered as Thailand’s rainiest spot and dates back 160 million years, making it one of the world’s oldest rainforests. Khao Sok weather is highly unpredictable. Khao Sok weather can be split into three seasons:

 

The Dry Season – November to February
The Hot Season – March to May
The Monsoon Season – June to October
