This policy explains what World Ghoomo collects when you visit worldghoomo.com, why we collect it, and what control you have over it. Last updated 24 August 2026.
Who we are
World Ghoomo publishes independent travel guides, itineraries and video from India and Asia at worldghoomo.com. For any privacy question, or to exercise the rights described below, email sarita@worldghoomo.com.
What we collect
Comments
When you leave a comment we collect what you type into the comment form, plus your IP address and browser user-agent string, which are used for spam detection. An anonymised hash of your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a profile picture; the Gravatar privacy policy is at automattic.com/privacy. Once your comment is approved, your name and picture are visible alongside it.
Email you send us
If you email us through the address on our Contact page, we keep the message and your address for as long as we need to answer it and to keep a record of any agreement. We do not add you to a mailing list from it.
Server logs
Our web server records standard request logs — IP address, timestamp, the page requested, referrer and user-agent. These are used to keep the site running and to investigate abuse, and are rotated on a short cycle.
Media
If you upload an image to the site, avoid images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS): visitors can download and extract that data.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies:
- Consent — if you are shown our cookie banner, your choice is stored in a
wg_cookie_consentcookie for six months so we do not ask again on every page. - Comments — if you leave a comment you may opt in to saving your name, email and website so you do not have to retype them. These last one year.
- Logged-in users — if you have an account, WordPress sets session and screen-preference cookies. Login cookies last two days, or two weeks with “Remember Me”. Screen options last a year. Editing a post stores a one-day cookie holding only that post’s ID.
- Advertising — where advertising is served, the ad network may set its own cookies. In the EEA and UK these are only set after you accept (see below).
Embedded video
Our video library uses YouTube. Nothing is requested from YouTube or Google until you actually press play on a video — until then the page shows only a still image. When you do play a video we use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), which limits the tracking cookies YouTube sets. Once a video is playing, YouTube may still collect data about that playback under Google’s privacy policy.
Other embedded content — images, posts or maps from other sites — behaves as if you had visited that site directly, and those sites may set cookies and track your interaction with the embed.
Advertising and analytics
The site carries display advertising, and we use analytics to understand which guides are read. If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we ask for your consent before any advertising or analytics cookies are set: until you accept, those requests are held back. Elsewhere they load by default, as permitted by local law. You can change your mind at any time by clearing this site’s cookies in your browser, which will bring the banner back.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. Data is shared only with the service providers needed to run the site — our hosting provider, our spam-filtering service, and the advertising and analytics providers described above — and where we are legally required to disclose it.
How long we keep it
Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so follow-up comments can be recognised and approved automatically. For registered users we store the information in the user profile; users can see, edit or delete it at any time, except their username. Administrators can also see and edit that information. Email correspondence is kept as described above.
Your rights
If you are in the EEA or UK you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to receive it in a portable form. If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an exported file of your data or ask us to erase it — except anything we must keep for legal, administrative or security reasons. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

Changes to this policy
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top of the page.
